The Commandments of the Apostles

All I Have Commanded, Appendix B
by Dan Bentley and E. Jay O'Keefe

Here we list the commandments which Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, commanded the apostles (Acts 1:2), and they in turn commanded the church. Repetitions are left in because different apostles usually gave different commentary, emphasis or application of a given command. The commands are listed by book in the order in which they appear in the book. The number(s) which follow each command indicate which category(s) the command fits in, as outlined in the Introduction. We recommend that you read through the entire appendix, at one sitting if possible, and not stop to look up individual Scripture references, in order to get an overall mental impression of what Jesus expects of any believer seeking to be His disciple.

NOTE: The numbers following each commandment refer to the categories in which divided all the commandments, as follows:

COMMANDMENTS IN ROMANS

6:11-13 Consider yourselves dead to sin. Do not let sin reign in your body and don¡¯t present the members of your body as instruments of unrighteousness, but rather as instruments of righteousness to God. 3
11:19-21 Don¡¯t become proud because you were grafted in. Rather fear God, for if God spared not the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 1
12:1-2 Present your bodies a living sacrifice. Do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds. 3
12:3-8, 16 Don¡¯t think more highly of yourselves than you ought to, but think soberly as you identify the gifts God has given you. Exercise your gifts as the Spirit leads. 3,5
12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor evil, cling to what is good. 2,3
12:10-11 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. 2
12:12 Rejoice in hope. Persevere in tribulation. Be devoted to prayer. 1,6
12:13 Contribute to the needs of the saints. 11
12:14, 17-21 Do not return evil with evil. 2
12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. 2
12:16, 15:5-7 Be of the same mind with one another. Associate with the lowly. 2
13:1-7 Be in subjection to the governing authorities. Render taxes to whom taxes are due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. 8
13:8-10 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another. Love your neighbor as yourself, which sums up the law. 2
13:11-14 Knowing the time is at hand, awaken from sleep and put away behavior such as carousing, drunkenness, sexual promiscuity, strife and jealously, i.e. put on the Lord Jesus and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. 3,6
14:1-15:2 Those who understand Christian liberty must accept the weak in the faith, must not pass judgment on their convictions, and must not put a stumbling block in their way. Sacrifice your liberty for the sake of your weak brothers. Those who do not understand Christian liberty must not judge or hold in contempt those who do. In matters on which the Bible is silent, each has the right to form his own convictions, and to participate in anything which doesn¡¯t offend his conscience. 2
16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 2
16:17-19 Keep your eye on those who cause dissentions and hindrances contrary to the teachings which you have learned. Turn away from them. Be wise in what is good, and innocent in what is evil. 2,7

COMMANDMENTS IN 1 CORINTHIANS

1:10, 11:17-19, 12:25-30 Agree with one another. Be of the same mind and same judgment. Let there be no divisions among you. 2
3:10-15 Be careful how you build on the foundation of Jesus Christ. 3
3:18-21 Do not deceive yourself into thinking you are wise in this age. 1
4:1-2 Regard us (your leaders and teachers) as stewards of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. It is required that stewards be found trustworthy. 5,7
4:5 Do not judge the motives of men¡¯s hearts. 2
4:16, 11:1 Be imitators of Paul. 3,10
5:1-13 Judge actions of your fellow believers and exercise church discipline when needed. Do not associate with immoral people. Remove the unrepentant wayward brother or sister from your fellowship. 2,7
6:1-8 Do not initiate law suits against fellow believers. Use fellow believers to arbitrate disputes. 2,7
6:9-11 Don¡¯t deceive yourselves into believing that fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate, homosexuals, coveters, drunkards, revilers or swindlers shall inherit the kingdom of God. 3
6:13-20 Flee fornication. Glorify God in your body. 3
7:1-5 Let the husband and wife fulfill their duty to each other. Stop depriving one another except by agreement for a time devoted to prayer. Then come together again lest Satan tempt you. 1,9
7:6-9 Let the unmarried and widows remain single. But if they do not have self control, let them marry. 9
7:10-11 Let the married not divorce, but if one spouse leaves, let them remain unmarried or be reconciled to their spouse. 9
7:12-16 In a marriage between a believer and an unbeliever, if they consent, let them remain together. But if the unbelieving spouse departs, let him leave. 9
7:17-24 Let each remain in his calling unless it is immoral. 9
7:39-40 If married, don¡¯t seek release. If unmarried, don¡¯t seek marriage. The unmarried state is less distracting and facilitates undivided devotion to the Lord. The same applies to a virgin daughter. 9
7:39-40 If a husband dies, the wife is free to marry, in the Lord, but in my opinion, she will be happier if she remains unmarried. 9
8:1-13, 10:23-33 Do not allow your Christian liberty to become a stumbling block to the weak. Give up your rights rather than wound his conscience. 2
9:1-14 Contribute to the financial support of those who minister the word to you. 7,11
9:24-27 Discipline yourself in such a way that you may earn a maximum reward for your ministry. 6,11
10:1-13 Profit from the mistakes of your progenitors and do not repeat their sins. Do not become overconfident lest you fall as they did. 3
10:14-22 Flee from idolatry. 1
11:2-16 While praying or prophesying, a man should have his head uncovered, while a woman should have hers covered. A woman¡¯s hair should be long, while a man¡¯s hair should be short. 1
11:20-34 Do not practice communion in an unworthy manner (with unconfessed sins), but examine yourself before doing so. 1,3
12:25, 14:1 Earnestly desire the greater gifts. 1,10
14:1 Pursue love. 1,2
14:13-14 Do not exercise the gift of tongues without an interpreter. 1,2
14:1-40 Exercise the gifts in an orderly manner, in a way which will result in maximum edification to the congregation. 2,10

14:34-35 Let the women keep silent in the churches. 7
15:33 Don¡¯t be deceived. Bad communications corrupt good morals. 2,3
15:34 Become sober minded and stop sinning. 3
15:58 Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your toil is not in vain in the Lord. 6
16:1-2 Give thought to and plan your giving in advance. 11
16:13-14 Stand firm in the faith. Act like men. Be strong. Let everything be done in love. 1
16:16 Submit to your leaders in the Lord¡¯s work. 7.
16:20 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 2

COMMANDMENTS IN 2 CORINTHIANS

1:4-5 Comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we are comforted by God. 2,10
5:18-20 Understand that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, and that He has committed to us this ministry of reconciliation, making us ambassadors of Christ who entreat people to be reconciled to God. 4
6:11-18 Do not be bound together with unbelievers, for what partnership has light with darkness? 2
7:1 Cleanse yourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 3
8:7-8 Just as you abound in all other spiritual gifts, see that you also abound in giving. 11
8:11-15 Follow through and make good on your giving commitments. Those with a surplus should share with those in need. 11
9:6-11 Give what you purpose in your heart to give, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Just understand that those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly, and those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully. 11
10:13-18 If you boast in what is accomplished as you minister for God, boast in the Lord. 1
13:5-6 Examine and test yourself to see whether or not you are saved. 1
13:11 Rejoice, grow spiritually to maturity, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace. 1,2,5
13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 2

COMMANDMENTS IN GALATIANS

4:12 I beg of you, brethren, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me no wrong. 6
5:1 Keep standing firm in the freedom Christ has given you and don¡¯t be subject again to a yoke of slavery. 1,6
5:4 Don¡¯t seek to be justified by law. 1
5:13 Don¡¯t turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 3,10
5:14-15 Love your neighbor as yourself, which fulfills the law. But if you bite and devour one another, take care lest you be consumed by one another. 2
5:16-25 Walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 1,3
5:26 Do not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. 2
6:1 If a person is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one, in a spirit of gentleness, looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2,5
6:2 Bear one another¡¯s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ. 2,10
6:4-5 Let each one examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another, for each one shall bear his own load. 2,6
6:6 Share all good things with him who teaches you the word. 7
6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a person sows, this he will also reap. 1,3
6:9 Don¡¯t lose heart in doing good, for in due time you will reap if you do not grow weary. 6
6:10 While you have opportunity, do good to all men, especially to those who are of the household of faith. 2,10

COMMANDMENTS IN EPHESIANS

2:8-9, 11-13 Remember you were once separated from Christ, but now, by faith in his blood, and not as a result of your works, you have been saved and brought near to Him. 1
4:1-2 Walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility, gentleness and patience, showing forbearance to one another in love. 2,3
4:3-6 Be diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 2,6
4:11-16 As a result of the spiritual gifts given to the church, no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming. Rather speak the truth in love. 5,7,10
4:17-18 Do not walk any longer as pagans walk, in the futility of their mind. 1,3
4:22-25 Lay aside your old self, your old manner of life, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. 3
4:26-27 Be angry, and yet do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, and do not give the devil an opportunity. 2
4:28 Let him who steals steal no more, but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need. 3,10,11
4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word that is good for edification according to the need of the moment. 2,3,5
4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 1
4:31 Put away from yourself all bitterness, wrath, anger, slander and malice. 1,2,3
4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has also forgiven you. 2
5:1-2 Be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ loved you and gave Himself for you. 2
5:4-5 Do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you. And there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 1,3
5:6-8, 11 Let no one deceive you with empty words, which bring the wrath of God on the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. 5,6,7
5:15-17 Be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise. Make the most of your time because the days are evil. So do not be foolish but understand what the will of God is. 1,3,6
5:18 Do not get drunk with wine, which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. 1
5:19 Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord. 2
5:20 Always give thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1
5:21 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. 1,2
5:22-24 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 9
5:25-32 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her. 9
5:33 Let each husband love his own wife even as Himself, and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband. 9
6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. 9
6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. 9
6:5-8 Slaves (employees) be obedient to your masters (employers), with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as unto Christ¡..knowing that whatever good thing you do, you will receive back from the Lord. 8,10,11
6:9 Masters (employers) do the same things to your employees, and give up threatening, knowing that their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him. 8,10,11
6:10-13 Be strong in the Lord. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 1
6:14-15 Stand firm having girded your loins with truth and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 1
6:16 Take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. 1
6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 1,5
6:18 Pray at all times in the Spirit, and be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. 1,6

COMMANDMENTS IN PHILIPPIANS

1:27, 2:1-2 Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Stand firm and be of one mind and one spirit, striving together for the faith of the gospel. 2,3,6
1:29 Because you have been granted for Christ¡¯s sake to believe in Him, expect also to suffer for His sake. 1,6
2:3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind, each of you regard one another as more important than himself. 2
2:4 Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 2

2:5-11 Have the same mental attitude which Jesus had when He left His exalted position in heaven with the Father, humbled Himself, became a man and died on the cross for our sins. 1,2,10
2:12-13 Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God that works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. 1,5,6
2:14-15 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent children of God. 1,10
2:16-18; 3:1 Hold fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ, those who taught and ministered to you may have cause to glory because they did not toil in vain. Rejoice in the same way and share your joy with them. 1,6,7
3:2-3 Beware of evil workers and false teachers. 7
3:12-15 Don¡¯t consider yourself to have attained, but have the attitude of forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, pressing on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 6
3:17 Follow Paul¡¯s example and observe those who walk according to his pattern. 7
4:1,4 Stand firm in the Lord. Rejoice in the Lord always. 1
4:5 Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. 2
4:6-7 Don¡¯t worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 1
4:8-9 Let your mind dwell on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, in other words, any excellence or anything worthy of praise. 1,3,5

COMMANDMENTS IN COLOSSIANS

2:6-7 As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. 1,6
2:8-10 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the traditions of, and according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. 5,7
2:16-17 Let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink, or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day, things that are a mere shadow of what is to come but the substance belongs to Christ. 7
2:18-19 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, and not holding fast to the head of the church (Christ). 7
2:20-22 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, do not submit yourself to decrees such as ¡°Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch,¡± which all refer to things destined to perish, in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men. 1,7
3:1-4 Keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 1,6,11
3:5-7 Consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. 3
3:8 Put aside anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 3
3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created Him. 2
3:12-13 And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against any one; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 2
3:14 And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 2
3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 1
3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 1,2
3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. 1,10
3:18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 9
3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be embittered against them. 9
3:20 Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. 9
3:21 Fathers, do not exasperate your children, that they may not lose heart. 9
3:22 Slaves (employees), in all things obey those who are your masters (employers) on earth, not with external service as those who merely please, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 1,8
3:23-25 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord, you will receive the reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. 1
4:1 Masters (employers), grant to your slaves (employees) justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven. 8,10,11
4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving. 1,6
4:5 Conduct yourself with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 2
4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person. 2

COMMANDMENTS IN 1 THESSALONIANS

2:11-12 As you have been exhorted, encouraged and implored by the apostles, your teachers and the word, walk in a manner worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. 1,6,7
3:12-13 Increase and abound in love for one another, and for all men. 2
4:1-2 As you have received instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God, excel still more. For you know what commandments you have been given by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 1,5
4:3-8 Abstain from sexual immorality. Know how to possess your own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like those who do not know God. For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification, consequently, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives you the Holy Spirit. 3
4:9-10 As to the love of the brethren, excel still more. 2
4:11-12 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and tend to your own business, as you have been commanded, so that you may behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need. 2,11
4:13-18 Comfort one another with the teaching concerning the dead and the Lord¡¯s return. 2,5
5:2-7 Knowing that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, don¡¯t sleep as others do, but be alert and sober. 6
5:8-10 Be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 1,6
5:11 Encourage one another and build up one another. 2
5:12-13 Appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction. Esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. 2,7
5:14 Admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all men. 2,7
5:15 See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all men. 2
5:16 Rejoice always. 1
5:17 Pray without ceasing. 1
5:18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 1
5:19 Do not quench the Spirit. 1
5:20 Do not despise prophetic utterances. 1,5
5:21-22 Examine everything carefully. Hold fast to that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil. 3,5
5:26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. 2

COMMANDMENTS IN 2 THESSALONIANS

2:1-3 Regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus, let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction. 6,7
2:13-15 Stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth, or by letter from the apostles. 1,6,7
3:6-7 In the name of the Lord Jesus, keep aloof from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition received from the apostles. 2,7
3:10-12 If anyone will not work, neither let him eat. Some lead an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 7,11
3:13 Do not grow weary of doing good. 6,10
3:14-15 If anyone does not obey the instructions of this letter, take special note of that man, and do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame. And yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 2,7

COMMANDMENTS IN 1 TIMOTHY

1:3-4 Don¡¯t pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. 6,7
1:5-7 Make the goal of your instruction love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some men straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussions, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. Pay no attention to them. 2,7

2:1-4 Make entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1,4,8
2:8 Men should pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. 1
2:9-10 Women should adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as befits women making a claim to godliness. 3
2:11-15 Women are to quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. They are not allowed to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 7
3:2-7 To qualify as an overseer, a man must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money. He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity, not a new convert. And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 7
3:8-10 Likewise deacons must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine, or fond of sordid gain, but holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let these also first be tested, then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. 7,10
3:11 Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. 3,10
3:12-13 Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households. For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 7,10
4:7-11 Have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness. For bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. Prescribe and teach these things. 3,7
4:12 Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. 7
4:13-16 Teachers, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. Take pains with these things. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you. 4,6,7

5:1-2 Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers, the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity. 2,7
5:3-7 Honor widows who are widows indeed, but if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family, and to make some return to their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God. Now she who is a widow, indeed, and who has been left alone has fixed her hope on God, and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day. But she who gives herself to wanton pleasure is dead even while she lives. Prescribe these things as well so that they may be above reproach. 7,9,10,11
5:8 Any one who fails to provide for his own, and especially those of his household, has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 9,10,11
5:9-10 Let a widow receive benevolence from the church treasury only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man, having a reputation for good works, and if she has brought up children, if she has shown hospitality to strangers, if she has washed the saints feet, if she has assisted those in distress, and if she has devoted herself to every good work. 3,10,11
5:11-15 Refuse to give benevolence to younger widows, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to get married, thus incurring condemnation because they have set aside their previous pledge. And at the same time they also learn to be idle, but also gossips and busybodies. Therefore the younger widows should get married , bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach. For some have already turned aside to follow Satan. 9,11
5:16 If any woman who is a believer has dependent widows, let her assist them, and let not the church be burdened, so that it may assist those who are widows indeed. 9,10,11
5:17-18 Give generous compensation to the elders who rule well, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 7,11
5:19-21 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses. Those who continue in sin rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also may be fearful of sinning. Maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. 7
5:22 Do not lay hands on any one too hastily and thus share responsibility for the sins of others. Keep yourself free from sin. 3,7
6:1-2 Let employees regard their employers as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine may not be spoken against. And let those who have believers as employers not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but let them serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. Teach and preach these principles. 7,8,11

6:3-5 Beware of any one who advocates a different doctrine, and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness. 7
6:11-14 Flee from the love of money and the desire to get rich, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called. Keep the commandment without stain or reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 3,6,11
6:17-19 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. 1,7,10,11
6:20-21 Guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called ¡°knowledge,¡± which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. 6,7

COMMANDMENTS IN 2 TIMOTHY

1:6-7 Kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you, for God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. 1
1:8 Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, but suffer for the gospel according to the power of God. 6
1:13-14 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from your teachers, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 1,5,6,7
2:1-2 Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and the things you have heard from your leaders in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. 5,7
2:3-4 Suffer hardship with your fellow believers as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 10
2:7-8 Consider the Scriptures, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to the gospel. 1
2:11-13 Remember these trustworthy statements: If we died with Him, we shall also live with him. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 1
2:14 Charge those you teach in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless, and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 7

2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth. 6,7
2:16-18 Avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene. Examples are Hymenaeus and Philetus, men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and thus they upset the faith of some. 6,7
2:19 Let everyone who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness. 3
2:22 Flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 3
2:23 Refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 7
2:24-26 Do not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth. 2,7
3:1-5 Realize that in the last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power. Avoid such men as these. 6,7
3:14-15 Continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them. 6
3:16-17 Remember that all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 1,5
4:1-5 Preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. Be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 4,7

COMMANDMENTS IN TITUS

2:1 Speak the things that are fitting for sound doctrine. 1,7
2:2 Older men, be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. 1,3
2:3-5 Older women, be reverent in behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, that you may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be dishonored. 3,9

2:6-8 Young men, be sensible. In all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, in order that the opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. 2,3
2:9-10 Bond slaves (employees), be subject to your own masters (employers) in everything. Be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith that you may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect. 8,11
2:11-15 Deny ungodliness and worldly desires and live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus. 3,6
3:1 Be subject to rulers, to authorities. Be obedient and ready for every good deed. 8
3:2-7 Malign no one. Do not be contentious. Be gentle, showing every consideration for all men. 2,8
3:8 Speak confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to engage in good deeds. 2,4
3:9 Shun foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 7
3:10-11 Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self condemned. 7

COMMANDMENTS IN PHILEMON

(The few commandments are specific to that day and situation)

COMMANDMENTS IN HEBREWS

2:1-4 Pay much closer attention to what God has spoken to us in His Son, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? 1
3:1-6 Consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. He was faithful as a Son over His house, whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. 1,6
3:7-15; 4:7 Take care, brothers, lest there should be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, in falling away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end. Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as when Israel provoked God. 1,2,6

4:1-3 Fear, lest while a promise remains of entering His rest, any of you should seem to have come short of it. For we who have believed enter that rest. 1,6
4:11 Be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall through following Israel¡¯s example of disobedience. 3,6
4:14 Hold fast your confession, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. 6
4:15-16 Since we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin, draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. 1
6:1-2 Leaving the elementary teaching about Christ, press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 5,6
6:11-12 Show diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 6
7:4-27 Observe how great this man (Melchizedek) was to whom Abraham gave a tenth of the choicest spoils. For it is witnessed of Him (Christ), ¡°Thou art a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.¡± For on the one hand, there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness (for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. How much more Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. Hence also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. 1
10:19-22 Since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith. 1
10:23 Hold fast the confession of your hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 6
10:24-25 Consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, and do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. 2,6
10:26-30 Realize that if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve, who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 4,6

10:31-32 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God, but remember the former days when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings. 6
10:35-39 Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward, for you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 6
12:1-2 Since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, lay aside every encumbrance , and the sin which so easily entangles us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3,6
12:3 Consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart. 6
12:5-6 Do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him. For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives. 1
12:9 We had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 1
12:12-13 Strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. 3
12:14 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. 2
12:15-16 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many are defiled; that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 6
12:25-29 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. 1,4,6
13:1 Let love of the brethren continue. 2
13:2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. 2
13:3 Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill treated, since you yourselves are also in the body. 2
13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. 3,9

13:5-6 Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have, for He Himself has said, ¡°I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.¡± So that we say with confidence, ¡°The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?¡± 1,2,11
13:7 Remember those who lead you, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the result of their conduct. Imitate their faith. 7
13:9 Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were thus occupied were not benefited. 7
13:13 Let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. 1
13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. 1
13:16 Do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. 10,11
13:17 Obey your leaders, and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. 7

COMMANDMENTS IN JAMES

1:2-4, 12 Consider it joy when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance, and let endurance have its perfect results, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Blessed are those who persevere under trial. For once they have been approved, they will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 1,6
1:5-8 If anyone lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But ask in faith without any doubting, for one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, being double minded and unstable in all his ways. 1
1:9 You who are of humble circumstances, glory in your high position. 1,11
1:10-11 You who are rich, glory in your humiliation, because like flowering grass, you will pass away. 1,11
1:13-16 Do not say when you are tempted, ¡°I am being tempted by God,¡± for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt any one. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 1,3
1:19-20 Be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. For the anger of man against man does not achieve the righteousness of God. 1,2

1:21 Put aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, and in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 3
1:22-25 Prove yourselves doers of the word and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he¡¯s like a man that looks at his natural face in a mirror, for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does. 1,3
1:26-27 If one thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person¡¯s religion is worthless. This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. 2,10
2:1 Do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. 1,2
2:10-13 Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. So speak and so act, as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment shall be merciless to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. 1,2
3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment. 7
3:5-12 Understand that the tongue, though a small part of the body, yet it boasts of great things. Behold how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity. No one can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things ought not to be this way. 2,3
3:13-4:6 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 3,10
4:7-10 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. 1,3
4:11 Do not speak against one another. He who speaks against a brother, speaks against the law, and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of it but a judge of it. 2

4:13-17 Do not presume on the future and say, ¡°Today or tomorrow, we shall go to such and such a city, spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.¡± Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. Instead, you should say, ¡°If the Lord wills, we shall live and also do this or that.¡± But as it is you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 6,11
5:1-6 You who are rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure. 11
5:7-8 Be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, until it gets the early and late rains. You too be patient, strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 1,6
5:9 Do not complain against one another, that you yourselves may not be judged. Behold, the judge is standing right at the door. 2
5:10-11 Consider the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of suffering and patience. Count those blessed who endured, for example you have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the outcome of the Lord¡¯s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. 6,7
5:12 Above all, do not swear (make vows which presume on the future)), either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your yes be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment. 1
5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. 1
5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven. 1,2,7
5:16-18 Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 1,2
5:19-20 If any among you strays from the truth, and one turns him back, understand that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins. 2,7

COMMANDMENTS IN 1 PETER

1:13 Gird your minds for action. Keep sober in spirit. Fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 6

1:14-16 Do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but be holy yourselves also in your behavior, because it is written, ¡°You shall be holy , for I am holy.¡± 1,3
1:17 Conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth, addressing as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man¡¯s work. 1
1:22 Fervently love one another from the heart. 2
2:1-2 Put aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation. 3,5
2:11 As aliens and strangers, abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul. 3
2:12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may on account of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. 3,4
2:13-15 Submit yourselves for the Lord¡¯s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. 8
2:16-17 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of God. Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God, honor the king. 2,8
2:18-21 Servants (employees), be submissive to your masters (employers) with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscious toward God a man bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in his steps. 8,11
3:1-2 Wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by your behavior, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. 9
3:3-6 Wives, Let not your adornment be merely external ¨C braiding of the hair, and wearing of gold jewelry, and putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 9
3:7 Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman. And grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 9
3:8 All of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit. 2

3:9 Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead, for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 2
3:10-11 ¡°Let him who means to love life and see good days refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile, and let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.¡± 3
3:13-15 Do not fear or be troubled by the intimidation of those who would seek to harm you. But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to every one who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence. 1,2,4
3:16-17 Keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than doing what is wrong. 2,4
4:1-5 Since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. So live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3,6
4:7 Be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 1
4:8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 2
4:9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint. 2
4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 10
4:11 Whoever speaks, let him speak, as it were, the utterances of God. Whoever serves, let him do so as by the strength which God supplies, so that in all things, God may be glorified. 7,10
4:12-14 Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exaltation. 1,6
4:15-16, 19 By no means let any of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler. But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God. 1,6
5:1-4 Elders, shepherd the flock of God among you, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God, and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness, not lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 7
5:5 Younger men, be subject to your elders. 7
5:5-6 Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time. 1,2
5:7 Cast all your anxiety upon Him because He cares for you. 1
5:8-11 Be of sober spirit. Be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.. And after you have suffered, for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 6
5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. 2

COMMANDMENTS IN 2 PETER

1:5-11 Add to your faith moral excellence, and to your moral excellence, knowledge, and to your knowledge, self-control, and to your self-control, perseverance, and to your perseverance, godliness, and to your godliness, brotherly kindness, and to your brotherly kindness, Christian love. Be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you, for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble. 1,3,4,6
1:19-21 Pay attention to the prophetic word made more sure, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one¡¯s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. 1
2:21-22 It would be better for a people not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, ¡°A dog returns to its own vomit,¡± and, ¡°A sow after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.¡± 4,6
3:1-2 Remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles. 1
3:3-4 Know that in the last days, mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, ¡°Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.¡± 6
3:8-9 Do not let this one fact escape your notice, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 1

3:10-15 Since the day of the Lord is coming, be diligent in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat. Therefore, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of the Lord to be salvation, just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you. 6
3:17-18 Be on your guard lest, being carried away by the error of unprincipled men, you fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 6

COMMANDMENTS IN 1 JOHN

1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1
2:3-11, 4:20-21 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ¡°I have come to know Him,¡± and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him¡¡¡The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1,2
2:15-17 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If any one loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts, but one who does the will of God abides forever. 3
2:22-23, 26 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father. The one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 1,6
2:28 Little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 6
3:6-10 No one who abides in Him sins. No one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. The one who practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning¡¡No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God. 2,3,6

3:13-15 Brothers, do not marvel if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 2
3:16-18 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world¡¯s goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 2,10,11
3:21-14 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God, and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit which He has given us. 1
4:1-3 Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. And every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of antichrist. 1,7
4:7-11 Love one another, for love is from God, and every one who loves is born of God and knows God. 2
4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in Him, and he in God. 1
4:21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. 1,2
5:3 For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome. 1
5:4-5, 11-12 Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world ¨C our faith. And who is the one that overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 1
5:14-15 And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. 1
5:16-17 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I do not say he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death. 2,7

5:21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols. 1

COMMANDMENTS IN 2 JOHN

1;5-6 And now I ask you, lady, not as writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it. 1,2
1:8 Watch yourselves that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. 6
1:9 Any one who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. The one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 1,6
1:10-11 If any one comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting, for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds. 2,7

COMMANDMENTS IN 3 JOHN

1:5-8 Beloved, you are acting well in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers, and they bear witness to your love before the church. You do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support such men, that we may be fellow-workers with the truth. 7,10,11
1:11 Do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God. The one who does evil has not seen God. 3

COMMANDMENTS IN JUDE

1:3-4 Contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long before marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 7
1:17-21 Remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¡°In the last time there shall be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.¡± These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly minded, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 6,7
1:22-23 Have mercy on some who are doubting. Save others, snatching them out of the fire, and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh. 2,4,5

COMMANDMENTS IN REVELATION

1:3 Blessed are those who read and hear the words of this prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it, for the time is near. 1
2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first, or else I am coming to you and will remove your lamp stand out of its place ¨C unless you repent. 1,3
2:7,11,17,29; 3:6,13,22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 1
2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer¡¡..Be faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life. 6
2:16 Repent, therefore, or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth. 1
2:25 What you have, hold fast until I come. And he who overcomes and he who keeps my deeds until the end, to him I will give authority to the nations. 1,6
3:2-3 Wake up and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die, for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of my God. Remember what you have received and heard, and keep it, and repent. 1,6
3:11 Hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown. 6
3:17-19 I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich, and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see. Those whom I love I reprove and discipline. Be zealous therefore, and repent. 1,3
14:7 And the angel who had an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth said, ¡°Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of water.¡± 1
18:4 Come out of her (Babylon), my people, that you may not participate in her sins, and that you may not receive of her plagues. 3
19:5 Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great. 1
19:10 Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. 1
22:7, 9-11 Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book. Worship God. Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong. Let the one who is filthy, still be filthy, and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness. And let the one who is holy, still keep himself holy. 1
22:12-14 Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 1,6
22:17 And the Spirit and the Bride say, ¡°Come.¡± And let one who hears say, ¡°Come.¡± And let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. 1
22:18-19 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. 1,7
